The first race of 2002 for SuperBikers2 is now in the books. There is way more work to this promoting thing than what I should have taken on. At least with a regular full time job. I think I need a secretary. Anyhow, it was wet. I got to the track and set up in the rain. I was thinking the whole time that this was not going to be fun. Was I wrong. About an hour later the gates opened and vehicles with trailers and bikes in pick-ups began rolling down the access road to the track. All total, there was about 50 entries and about 200 spectators. The temperature never got warmer than 45 degrees and again....it was raining. Never thought they would come. With the CCS double regional roadrace going on the 4 mile course, we had even more spectators than I had expected. The practice was wet. Cold and slippery track. Alot of different ideas on how to groove a tire to work in these conditions. It turns out that the Goodyear DT tires were a good choice. Warmed up well and stuck like glue in the rain. I had a dirt track rider on my Husky and let me tell you....that was something to watch. Here he was, riding a 60+hp missle on ice like conditions. Sideways......alot! Very fun to watch. It turns out it was either too much power or too little tire. No traction. Even when it dried up in the afternoon. Most guys were hooked up on the exits of the turns. The NOX was spinning the rear leaving the turns....until it got a little glimspe of traction. Then it was pointed towards the clouds in a very crossed-up fashion. Like I said......fun to watch. We ended up with a 3rd place finish in the Premier class. And he only fell once. Hard to believe if you would have seen some of the close calls. From talking to everyone. it sounds like everyone had fun. We are looking forward to sun and 70 degrees this coming Sunday for Round 2 of the SuperBikers2 Motard Challenge Series. Thanks again to everyone for making this another great event.
