Fourteen
year old Jesse Janisch put it all together at
the first round of Superbikers2 Supermotard
competition and won the Premier Motard class.
Janisch aboard the Pro-Plates, DGTR Metalworks,Torque
Center, Southeast Sales, Mid-Cities Motorsports
CR250 Honda began the day like everyone else
on a wet, cold, windy track. Practice was miserable
but Janisch was beginning to like the sliding
around on the slippery course. This was only
this young dirt tracker/motocrossers second
try at Supermotard racing. After a couple of
sessions Jesse said," I really feel comfortable
out there. I kind of hope it keeps raining because
it will give me a better chance to run up front".
Run up front is exactly what he did by jumping
into the lead through turn one at the start
of the Premier heat race. Shane Meyers, Jeremy
Deruyter, Scotty Diedrich, and Ben Carlson filled
out the top five.
By the end of lap two Diedrich had moved into
second and stayed there the rest of the race
unable to make a move on Janisch on a quickly
drying track. Deruyter took over third and Carlson
slid into the fourth with Meyers holding on
to fifth by the end of lap three. Lap four saw
Carlson bump Deruyter to fourth and the order
remained the same to the finish.
The Premier final saw a repeat of the heat race
with the same five riders falling in line through
turn one. Again Jesse was out front followed
this time by Scotty Diedrich, Carlson, Deruyter
and Meyers.
The opening laps saw good racing but no change
in position. By lap five Janisch had opened
a little gap on Diedrich and looked very smooth
leading this race on a now dry but still cold,
slippery track. The order remained the same
to the finish with Janisch pulling away through
traffic and taking his first ever Supermotard
final event victory.
In other events Scotty Diedrich on his Caolle
Bros. & Diedrich, Pro Motorsports 450 Honda
ran away with the Middleweight Motard race with
a 14 second victory over second place Shane
Meyers and third place Ron Zastrow.
In Quad competition Frank Knoll and Craig Johnson
had a super race for the lead in the Premier
Quad class. Both riders were on Suzuki 500's
and they were sliding through turns smoking
tires the entire 15 laps while pulling a huge
gap on the rest of the field. At the end it
was Knoll on his Pioneer Engineering machine
the took the checkers first with Johnson hot
on his rear wheels.
